Besides the food groups, the Food Pyramid is another way for you to get an idea of the kinds of foods your kids should be eating, as how much of each food group. As you might have noticed in the previous page, sweets, fats and oils should be consumed sparingly.

In the next layer, dairy products and protein, including meat, fish and nuts, should be eaten in moderation.The pyramid recommends 2 servings of meat and three servings* of milk, cheese and yogurt each day.

The next portion of the food pyramid includes fruits and vegetables, which should be included at every meal, and require 2 portions of fruit each day, and 3 portions of vegetables.

Finally, the cereal group, which contains cereal, bread, rice and pasta should be your main focus. You should eat 6 servings from this group each day.

In addition, you should drink 8 cups of pure water each day to keep hydrated!

How much is a serving/portion? It's about the size of your fist, no matter what your age. So, a child's fist will be about the size of their portion, and so will an adults'.
